Scriptures for Courage & Strength

Strength & Courage

When you find your strength and courage waning, even if it’s for reasons completely and totally beyond your control, remember that you can always ask for extra strength, extra courage, and extra support from The Lord – and you can do it all through prayer.

Make sure to remember these top 10 prayers for extra strength and extra courage in your moments of need, and remember to lean on your faith in times of struggle and moments of weakness or temptation
Prayer #1 –Give Me Strength, Lord

“Lord, you are Holy above all others, and all of the strength that I need is in your hands.”

“I am not asking, Lord, that you take this trial away. Instead, I simply ask that Your will be done in my life. Whatever that means, that is what I want.”
A simple and straightforward prayer (one that you may even wish to memorize), this prayer does not ask for anyone to do the “heavy lifting” of life for you but instead the extra strength to tackle the challenges that you must face.
Prayer #2 – For Strength and Wisdom

“Thank you, Lord, for being there for me and allowing me to cry out to you in my times of need. It is amazing to me that the Lord of the Universe would take time to listen to me and to care about what I say. God, there are things happening around me right now that I do not understand. Some of these things make me feel weak, helpless and afraid.”

“Even in the midst of this, I know that you are the Lord.”
This prayer allows you to remember and recognize that The Lord is always going to be by your side, helping you navigate life’s great and small challenges alike. Understanding that you will have moments of weakness because of your humanity is important to remembering and rediscovering the strength you have inside yourself.
Prayer #3 – Prayer for Overcoming Life’s Hardships

“O Lord, we call upon You in our time of sorrow, That You give us the strength and will to bear our heavy burdens, until we can again feel the warmth and love of Your divine compassion. Be mindful of us and have mercy on us while we struggle to comprehend life’s hardships.”

“Keep us ever in Your watch, til we can walk again with light hearts and renewed spirits.”
Life is not all sunshine and roses, and we will all have to face and deal with moments of extreme sadness, sorrow, and very real burdens that we may not feel we deserve.

By asking for the Lord’s help through this prayer you are going to be able to meet each of these challenging situations, understanding that life (as always) goes on and that you will be rewarded for your steadfastness of faith.
Prayer #4 – To be Grateful

“Lord God, may we be grateful for our lot, and compassionate toward all those who are suffering every kind of distress at this difficult time.”

“May we hold back nothing, and hasten to be the ministers of prayer and mercy, like the disciples of Him who went about doing good in times of need. Amen”
One of the most empowering emotions we can convey is the emotion of gratitude. When we are grateful for all of the things that we have going for ourselves in our lives, it arms us with extra strength and courage to meet challenges as they arise.
Prayer #5 – Isaiah 41:10

“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
Often times we can feel as though we are lost, alone, and abandoned. This is human nature. However, when you use this prayer to give you extra strength and extra courage, you’ll remember that you are always protected by The Lord – even when you feel as though everyone has deserted you.

You are never truly alone.
Prayer #6 – Philip 4:13

“I am able to do all things through him who gives me strength.”
A short prayer that embraces the power that the Lord provides you, this is more of a thankful message to the heavens above than anything else for the consistent strength and courage that you have been empowered with.
Prayer #7 – Ephesians 6:10

“Be strong in the Lord, and in the strength of his might. Amen.”
Another of the more concise strength and courage prayers you’ll come across, this is a reminder of the fact that your relationship with the Lord can always be relied on and drawn from to give you courage when you feel it waning.
Prayer #8 – Isaiah 41:10

“Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness”
It’s important to remember that you aren’t ever truly alone, and that the Lord walks with you always. There’s something extremely comforting about knowing that you are always within eyesight and earshot of the Lord, and that he will provide you with the strength you need no matter how stiff the challenge may appear to be.
Prayer #9 – Joshua 1:5-9

“Be strong and courageous; for you shall cause this people to inherit the land which I swore to their fathers to give them. Only be strong and very courageous, to observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded you. Don’t turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may have good success wherever you go.”
Joshua understood the power of strength and courage, and this passage from his section in the Bible will help you to draw from the rock solid foundation of faith you have created throughout your life. It will also remind you that it’s important not to run from challenges, but to embrace and overcome them to grow stronger.
Prayer #10 –Psalm23

“The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.”
One of the most popular prayers there is, this Psalm is going to give you all of the strength you need to meet new challenges head-on without fear but instead with conviction and real confidence. It’s incredibly popular with men and women in the military, as well as those that face extreme changes in their daily life.
